I love making homemade sauces and marinades because I know that my family won't be getting any artificial junk food in their dinners. My daughters love this teriyaki sauce as do I- they eat it on chicken and fish, and I use it for tofu and tempeh. Give it a try and you'll never use the store- bought stuff again! In this recipe, I substitute sesame seeds for hemp seeds, since my youngest daughter has a severe allergy to sesame. If you have a sesame allergy kid, hemp seeds are a great nutritious substitute.

Copycat Mikees Teriyaki Sauce
2 tablespoons maple syrup
3 tablespoons tamari
1 tablespoon plum vinegar (if you don't have this, you can just use an extra tablespoon of tamari)
2 tablespoons hemp seeds
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 scallions, chives, chopped small, optional
2 tablespoons water
For the Tofu
1 package organic extra firm tofu, with all the liquid pressed out
1 batch teriyaki sauce
While tofu is being dried out, whisk all marinade ingredients. Slice tofu into 10 even slices. Place into a baking pan that will fit them in 1 snug layer. pour marinade on top and marinate at least 30 minutes, up to overnight. Bake covered on 350 for 20 minutes.
