My grandmother always made peas on Friday Nights. My mother always makes peas on Friday Night. I always make peas on Friday night. My girls will likely make peas on Friday night. Traditionally, what went with the peas was veal stuffed with ground beef, meat- ball like kibbes and even roast chicken. In this version, I replace the meat with something just as hearty- Mushrooms! I used my favorite type, baby Bellas, but any variety would work. I take this recipe very seriously, since it may be passed down for many generations to come!

Peas With Mushrooms and Onions

2 8 oz boxes Mushrooms, any variety, sliced

1 bag frozen peas

1/2 red onion, sliced thin

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup water or vegetable stock (use more if needed)

2 tbsp oil

Salt and pepper, to taste

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp allspice

1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Add all ingredients to a roaster and cook on 350 for at least 30 minutes covered, until mushrooms are soft.
