Detox Watermelon Smoothie

When I say detox, I definitely DO NOT mean juice fasting, extreme dieting or starving yourself . What detox means to me is getting back to a healthful normal routine if for some reason you fell short because of a holiday, busy schedule or vacation.

Here are some elements of my own detox resolutions whenever I need it. Keep your detox resolutions short and doable so that you can make the most of this time!

  1. Taking no days off my 6 day a week exercise routine

  2. Eating 3 clean meals a day with limited snacking in between. This is the number 1 thing that trips me up. Although everything I eat all vegan and mostly plant- based, I can turn endless snacking into one enormous meal lasting the whole day, which causes a MAJOR stomach ache...

  3. Re-setting myself up with the foods I need in the fridge and freezer to stay on track. I batch make my freezer goods- desserts, breads, veggie burgers. While they last a while, when something finishes it must be re-stocked for me to eat healthfully.

  4. Do a major shopping order and LOAD UP ON FRESH PRODUCE! This is somewhat easy because Amazon Fresh always has me covered…

I typically recommend smoothies to busy morning people as its quickest way to get food in the body while running around and getting ready for the day. Here is a recipe for a Detox Watermelon Green Smoothie that I like to drink before or after hitting the gym in the morning. I love coconut water as the base to this smoothie because it contains the electrolytes of a sports drink without any of the processed junk, artificial flavors, colors and sugar! Watermelon is 92% water and is wonderfully hydrating. The best part of this smoothie is the watermelon flavor thats reminds me that summer is always right around the corner, even when its the dead of winter....

Detox Watermelon Green Smoothie

2 cups watermelon, fresh and cubed (I have also done this with watermelon that I froze, after having leftover from the weekend)

2 handfuls spinach

1 c coconut water

Ice, optional

2 tbsp chia seeds

Blend everything together and enjoy! Can top with pomegranate seeds and coconut shreds.
